The first training session of the new year was a showcase of the great training on offer every Sunday & Wednesday.
Head trainer and Dropkixx owner Jon Ritchie began the excellent warm-up, followed by some break falls, head springs, cartwheels and back-rolls.
With the students looking like that hadn’t missed a beat over the Christmas period Jon then paired the students up and they began two minutes of amateur wrestling, after the two minutes was up each student swapped and wrestled someone different.
After a quick break Jon had all the students sit in a circle around the mat as our first “shoot match” of 2009 was about to happen as Mr. Brisco took on IWC Heavyweight champion The Grim Reaper, although the match never got started as The Grim Reaper was (Playfully) attacked by the students because it would be his birthday on Monday.
After Grim had recovered we had a quick game of murder-ball because we didn’t have our usual end of year games session in 2008.
After that it was back to some proper training as the students were paired up and given various match types/scenarios to wrestle in front of the other students. As always, students were paired with people who they wouldn’t usually train with, so we had a few size and style differences. And as usual the quality of the matches produced were excellent, showing that the training the students received was up to the usual Dropkixx standard in that they were able to have great matches no matter what size or style their opponent had.
This all added up to another great training session, next week the ring will be up and in use all day!
Unfortunately Wednesday’s Tottenham session had to be cancelled on short notice due to travel complications. Tottenham training will be back to normal next week.
Don't forget that the next Dropkixx training sessions will be at Purfleet on Sunday and is led by Jon Ritchie. Purfleet training starts at 10:30 A.M. and finishes at 4:30 P.M., the address of the gym is: Hugh Delarghy Hall, North Road, Purfleet, Essex, RM19 1TU.
The next training session after that will be at Tottenham on Wednesday led by The Grim Reaper. Tottenham training starts at 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., the address of the gym is: Tottenham Chances (Formerly The Royal British Legion), 399 Tottenham High Road, Tottenham, N17 6QN.
